My only Orange County board line

Back in 2006 my main goal was to find a Newporter, so early that March, I decided to set up a boardline in O.C. I found an area that looked good and set it up by my self. It was a lot of hard work but I was very excited to have a spot no one knew about. That spring I checked it about once a week, but all I ever found was the same juvenile S.D. Gopher snake. This photo from 2006 was edited to keep the privacy of this area. (click on photos to enlarge)

I was disappointed I had put in all that work without finding a king, but I ended up finding plenty in other areas. At the time I was thinking that place sucked, but later I learned boards need time to age before they become productive. Four years later in 2010 I went back for the first time since 2006 and found my first kingsnake.

I ended up finding 2 kingsnakes and 3 Gopher snakes that day. Here's one of the Gopher snakes.

A month later I returned and had a great day. I found 6 kingsnakes and one nice looking S.D. Gopher snake. One board had 2 kingsnakes and a Gopher snake under it, and the board was only about 36"X24".

Then I was rewarded with what I had set this site up for. A Typical Striped Newport. It was an awesome feeling lifting that board up and seeing him laying there.

What an amazing day that was and I even found a pair of kings under another board.

What an amazing feeling it was to find all these snakes after all the hard work I put in.
